Family Business with Deep Irish Roots Delivers First-of-its-Kind Services to County Galway Roads

Kiely Group, the largest provider of surface treatments across the UK, is proud to announce its official launch in the Irish market, underscored by the successful completion of its inaugural contract in Tuam Municipal District, County Galway. This milestone not only marks a significant expansion for the family-run business but also introduces innovative road improvement techniques to Ireland for the very first time.

Founded by the late Michael Kiely from Athea in Limerick, who left his homeland over seventy years ago in search of work, the company's journey has come full circle. Now, three generations later, his grandson (also Michael) proudly leads the business back to Ireland, bringing with him decades of expertise and pioneering solutions that have never-before graced Irish roads.

Their first Irish project included delivering high-quality surface dressing, alongside the debut of Kiely Lock - a secondary process that has revolutionised road resilience in the UK, and is now set to benefit communities throughout Ireland. Delivery of the Tuam Municipal District surface dressing contract demonstrated Kiely Group's commitment to both efficiency and excellence and their growth journey.

John Coyle, Senior Executive Engineer for Tuam Municipal District and Galway County Council also provided comments following successful completion of the contract:

“Galway County Council is pleased to acknowledge the successful completion of our recent surface dressing contract delivered by Kiely. As their first major programme of works in Ireland, the team demonstrated outstanding professionalism, technical skill and efficiency from start to finish.

The introduction of the specialised Kiely Lock process was a particular highlight. This innovative sealing technique has delivered an exceptionally high-quality, durable finish. It will significantly extend the life of our network and provide a safer road surface for local drivers.

Throughout the works, operational efficiency was excellent. The project was completed on schedule with minimal disruption to local residents and road users. Safety management on-site was also maintained to the highest standard.

We thank the entire team for their hard work, open communication and collaborative approach. We would welcome the opportunity to work with them again on future road maintenance frameworks.”

The major milestone for the business was captured by Lauren Kiely (granddaughter of the late Michael Kiely), who travelled to Tuam to document the first ever programme of works being delivered. Lauren, who is Head of Marketing and Communications at Kiely Group, tells of her experience in Tuam Municipal District, alongside the crew:

“Seeing the crew complete our first programme of works in Ireland has been an incredibly proud moment for me, both personally and as a member of the family behind the business.

I travelled over to Tuam to see the work taking place firsthand and to capture some footage, and it was quite emotional seeing our crews out on Irish roads for the first time. Our grandparents were originally from Ireland, so there's a real full-circle feeling to establishing the business here. I only wish they could have seen it – I know they would have been incredibly proud of how far the family and the business have come.

It was also fantastic to see Kiely Lock being delivered on Irish roads for the very first time. We've built our reputation around delivering exceptional quality surface treatments and finding innovative ways to protect and extend the life of the road network, so bringing that expertise to a new market is hugely exciting.
